We’ve been to St. Maarten a few times, always via Royal Caribbean cruises and we’ve always just walked around the town where the ship docked. I met Jessie, who was a bridesmaid at one of my couple’s wedding earlier this year. When I posted on Instagram that I’ll be travelling to St.Maarten in November 2018 onboard the Harmony of the Seas cruise, she reached out to me! At first I thought she will be travelling on the cruise as well but it turns out that her and her husband both live on the island of beautiful and sunny St. Maarten and agreed to show us around! I honestly can’t thank them enough for taking time off work to hang out with us. Cupecoy Beach is Jessie’s fav beach and also where Mitch proposed to her at (so romantic). There are beautiful pink rocks and it’s in a very remote location that most tourist don’t know about. I’m so happy that they brought us to Cupecoy Beach because I got to test out my new Rokinon 24mm f2.8 on my Sony A7iii and it performed quite beautifully! A wide angle for $499 is quite worth it imo! Most images below were taken with the Rokinon 24mm f2.8 from Amazon aside from a small handful of portraits with the Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 which I got from Ebay. Can you tell which is which?

Cupecoy beach is far enough from the cruise ships that tourists really won’t go out of their way to go there. This is such a meaningful and picturesque spot that I had to take a few Cupecoy Beach St. Marteen destination photos for them. Before we arrived, they told us that sometimes nudists also go to Cupecoy Beach so we might see somethings that we don’t expect or want to see haha. Thankfully we had the beach to ourselves and no nudists (phew)! I also learned from them that St.Maarten is split into two – the Dutch side and the French side. The island itself is very small and the ship docks on the Dutch side. Although everyone on the Dutch side speaks english, folks on the French side speaks mostly French. And even though the island is so small, to call from say Dutch side to French side it is actually long distance calling AND the power on both sides are different which means that if you were to stay overnight on the other side you’ll actually need to bring a converter. Isn’t that interesting?!
